Why We Believe Women Should Be Learning AI: A Personal Call to Action
Jun 08, 2025
Introduction
When we first started exploring AI, we noticed the same thing: nearly every expert we saw was a man. From YouTube tutorials to industry articles, the voices were overwhelmingly male. At first, we thought, "Does it matter?" But as we dove deeper, we realized how fast AI is evolving—and how essential it is for us—and for all women—to not just use it, but to understand it, shape it, and lead with it. AI isn’t future talk—it’s happening now. New startups spring up every day, and people are using AI to generate real income. That’s why we’re writing this: to every woman sitting on the sidelines thinking AI isn’t for her—it is. It’s shaping everything in our lives, and we get to shape it too. So let’s jump in—together.
The AI Wave Is Here — And It’s Moving Fast
AI isn’t sci-fi anymore—it’s already woven into daily life: personalized shopping feeds, medical tools, even automated writing assistants. The people who understand AI now are positioning themselves to influence the future, and benefit from it. That's why we believe it’s crucial to start learning now.
Where Are the Women in AI?
The gender gap in AI is striking. Globally, women make up roughly 30% of AI talent, with even lower representation in senior roles—under 15% interface-eu.org. In the U.S. alone, women's adoption of AI tools still lags behind men by about 25% library.hbs.edu. Imagine the impact if more of us were visibly learning, teaching, building, and leading in AI. When young girls see women at the forefront, they’ll know they belong there too.
Why Women's Perspectives in AI Matter
Diverse teams create better AI. It’s not just about fairness—it’s about effectiveness. Studies show that gender-diverse teams produce more innovative ideas and create systems better suited for all users (SHRM). Women often spot biases others miss. Our different lived experiences shape new questions, applications, and solutions. If we want AI to benefit everyone, we have to have a seat at the table. It’s our lived experience that prevents blindspots in systems.
Our Experience Learning AI
Let’s be honest—AI felt intimidating at first: the tech jargon, the fast pace, the imposter syndrome. But we started small: exploring ChatGPT, watching YouTube videos, experimenting with no‑code tools. We’ve built automations for our mom’s small business in Make.com, and tinkered with custom tools in Replit. It took time, patience, and trial and error—but even small wins made us feel confident and ahead of the curve. Today, that progress places us ahead of a lot of people who’ve never started.
Breaking Down the Barriers
We’ve heard from women who think you need a CS degree or to be great at math. The truth? You don’t. We didn’t have one. We balanced careers, family, and busy lives. And yet, with just free YouTube tutorials and short online courses, we got going. Consistency built our confidence—and watching women in tutorials helped us feel like we weren’t alone. You don’t need a degree—you need curiosity and small, daily action.
Why Women Must Be Part of the Conversation
AI is changing everything—work, policy, health care, education. If women aren’t part of the conversation, our voices won’t shape the systems that shape our lives. History shows what happens when women aren’t heard (e.g., tampons, pads, bras all invented by men—grossly!). AI is the next frontier. We can’t afford to be left behind in yet another male-driven conversation.
Teaching and Lifting Each Other Up
Our biggest joy has been seeing other women jump in. We want to be the support we wish we had. It only takes one or two voices to inspire more. When one woman learns AI, she can empower ten others. That chain reaction is powerful.
Practical Ways to Start Learning Today
- Explore free tools: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Canva AI, Make.com, Replit, etc.—no cost, big learning.
- Watch beginner-friendly content: YouTube (Subscribe to our channel HERE!) Coursera, Khan Academy.
- Set small weekly goals: build a mini project or learn a new feature.

- Play often: that’s how curiosity leads to confidence.
Staying Consistent & Inspired
We set weekly goals—sometimes it was writing a simple script, or watching a series about AI tools. Following women who share their learning journey reminds us, “This is real, and this is me.” It proves that our perspectives belong in the AI world.
Future‑Proofing Our Careers
Worried AI will replace jobs? It will change them for the better if we lead. Soon, AI fluency will be as essential as email skills. Right now, most people aren’t learning it. That gives us a head start. The wave is coming so why not get out there and start learning so you can be early!
Our Vision for the Future
We want to see women leading AI, building products, talking on panels, teaching in classrooms. We want to hear girls proudly say, “I know AI.” We dream of spaces where we learn together, mentor each other, and innovate boldly. This new world is ours, too.
The Cost of Staying Silent
If we stay quiet, others will build the systems that shape our children’s lives—without our insight. Bias gets baked in. Our needs overlooked. Girls grow up thinking tech isn’t for them. That’s not the world we want. We deserve better. And so do they.
